Senior lecturer Maz Idriss recently held an insightful and powerful launch event for his new report on honour-based suicides.

In collaboration with senior lecturer Jonathan McGahan and the Halo Project Charity, the report highlights the challenges within the legal system to address the complexities of such cases and the urgent need to strengthen laws to prevent suicides linked to domestic and honour-based abuse. They also presented recommendations to ensure better protection and support for victims, such as improved access to culturally sensitive mental health services and an increase in funding for specialist support groups.

At the event, we were joined by support charities, police representatives, and policymakers who came to hear more about the recommendations, sparking meaningful discussions and connections. We also heard powerful case studies and moving stories from survivors through the work at Halo Project, bravely sharing their experiences and highlighting the critical role that specialist services play in supporting them.
