Yasmin Khan CBE is the Founder and Chief Officer of the Halo Project, the national charity supporting Black and minoritised victims and survivors of forced marriage, honour-based abuse, and female genital mutilation. From 2018 to 2026 she served as National Advisor on Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence to the Welsh Government, across two successive terms. She authored the first super-complaint in the history of UK policing in 2020, and served as an independent panel member on the cultural review of the London Fire Brigade in 2022. She holds an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law from Durham University.
Yasmin Khan CBE is a nationally recognised leader, advisor, and campaigner dedicated to tackling violence against women, honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and wider inequalities. Her career spans more than two decades of campaigning for systemic and transformative change within the criminal justice system, higher education, and public policy.
She is the Founder and Chief Officer of the Halo Project, which she established in 2011. The Halo Project has grown into one of the United Kingdom’s leading specialist charities supporting Black and minoritised victims and survivors of forced marriage, honour-based abuse, and female genital mutilation. In 2017 she established the first Black and minoritised refuge in the Tees Valley, and she developed the United Kingdom’s first Forced Marriage and Honour-Based Violence case scrutiny group.
From 2018 to 2026 she served as National Advisor on Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence to the Welsh Government, advising ministers on the implementation of the Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Act 2015 across two successive terms. In 2020 she authored the first super-complaint in the history of UK policing, exposing widespread failures in the investigation of sexual abuse. In 2022 she served as an independent panel member on the cultural review of the London Fire Brigade.
She is a Governor of Teesside University, where she serves as International EDI Lead. She is International Ambassador for the Honour Abuse Research Matrix (HARM Network), and an independent panel member for the selection of the Chief Constable for Cleveland Police. She is the founder and organiser of the EDI Awards, a community platform she has run for more than sixteen years.
She holds an MSc and an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law from Durham University.
